Signature of Sustainability Seafood Program MCBI is helping Holland America Line serve more sustainable seafood onboard their vessels. Holland America Line has made a commitment to remove unsustainable items from their seafood menu and serve more sustainable seafood items. This means that the fish are caught in a manner that does not irreparably harm the surrounding ecosystem and ensures enough fish remain in the sea to feed future generations and support local fishing communities. We have started identifying seafood items that are sustainable options; these are identified on Holland America Line menus with MCBI's logo. This program is already up and running on the Alaska lines, and will be available on all Holland America Line cruises within a year. In order to ascertain the sustainability of a particular seafood item, we have referred to Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program, as well as our own research and judgment. MCBI has a long history of encouraging the use of sustainable fishing gear. Using some of the same methods we do, you can determine if the seafood you are purchasing is sustainable. By visiting the Seafood Watch website, and ordering Seafood Watch cards of your own, you can go a long way toward making sure the seafood you purchase is sustainable.
