BycatchTime to Limit Bottom Trawlers

Among all the fishing methods, bottom trawling is the most destructive to our oceans. It's an industrial fishing method that scoops up everything in its path -- from targeted fish to incidentally caught centuries-old corals -- essentially clear-cutting the ocean floor.

At the U.N. in 2006, countries debated banning the practice in the high seas, but it was opposed by some countries, including Canada, because of fear that it would lead to restrictions on bottom trawling in their own waters. Now, a movement is on in Canada to limit bottom trawling in their waters. Learn more about what MCBI is doing regarding bottom trawling.
IMCCInternational Marine Conservation Congress

Scientists came from all over the world to attend the International Marine Conservation Congress (IMCC), which was recently held outside Washington DC. The goal of the conference was to put conservation science into practice through public and media outreach and to encourage changes in policies and practices to favor marine conservation. Read more about what MCBI did to ensure informed participation...
Thank you very much for your continued support of Marine Conservation Biology Institute (MCBI) and our mission to advance the science of marine conservation biology and restore, protect and conserve marine ecosystems.
